A Stroll Through Death Lane
The world seems to be slightly off. All the people appear to be ghosts but you seem to have kept your body. What exactly is happening to your body and the world around you. Can you get back to reality or is there even a real world to return to?
- The purpose of this game was to test the publicly available features and create a narrative game with effect based text. The game was a way of discovering some of the basic restraints of the Bitsy engine and complexities that arise when utilizing the engine.
- Bitsy provided a large amount of design based challenges as well. Art was very restrained allowing for only basic sprites and items to be used to demonstrate objects. The restraint led to creative interpretations of objects to appropriately convey the ideas across the medium.
- The implementation of two frame animation allowed for the inclusion of more active and immersive art. I utilized it to create basic but effective animation of movement in environmental pieces and sprites. The characters were given life and the environment greater interactivity.
In the end, the game gave me greater familiarity with Bitsy and the limitations its contains. Bitsy presented another new method to create excellent media that can be small yet still effective when telling stories and expressing small ideas. It was versatile enough to allow me to create a small yet expressive world that can be enjoyed by others.
